THE "GO TO" PLACE FOR ANYONE INTERESTED IN SPECIALTY FOOD MARKETING.

I've looked into storing my product, cheese wafers, at a public warehouse that is approved for food storage and at some local climate controlled mini-warehouses. To use one of the mini-warehouse I have to get it inspected by the local health department. The costs for both are roughly the same. Does anyone have advice about the best type of warehouse for food products?

Thanks,
Linda

Hi Linda,

If you can, find one that allows you to draw samples in small lots. This is usually not possible in a warehouse that has a strong union. In that case, you can get samples, but there will be a handling charge to do it.
The best type of warehouse for food products can depend on the product. In your case, a climate controlled space is required. It will also be helpful if the warehouse has experience, and existing clients, in the food industry.
You may also want to explore the procedures and costs for conducting annual inventories of your products in the warehouse.
Hope this helps. Let us know how it works.

Happy New Year,

Steve
