Notes from an attendee:
"For us, SIAL is mostly a fast series of meeting with our existing suppliers…negotiations on price, review of support they provide us, review of new items… and all of this is important. We had 14 meetings and they all netted something positive for the new year.
The exhibitors told us they were deeply disappointed with SIAL. Buyer numbers were down, and few new sales were transacted. The halls were not as crowded as in previous years – and we felt the same was true for the NY Fancy Food Show. No doubt SIAL management, like that NASFT, will put a positive spin on the event, but the exhibitors know best how to measure their investment of time and money against likely results. This year’s SIAL was a pleasure for us, but a bummer for our suppliers."
"In a phone call yesterday a major French supplier who concluded that SIAL was a worthwhile show, and their results were positive. Ironically, the last day (usually not very active) was very productive for them."
