Check out Hanover Insurance. I use them for my product liability insurance for my gourmet cookie company. To answer your first question, not only is there such a thing but it is imperative that you have it for a couple of reasons. First, you want to cover yourself if anything should ever happen. Second, most commercial kitchens (if your renting one) will need you to have insurance. Third, most major retailers will need you to have insurance before they will purchase your product. Hope this helps...good luck to you!
My company Carvel Insurance Brokers provide product liabilities insurance to the food industry in the UK. When you approach a broker for product liabilities cover they will typically ask you for the following information to provide quotes:
• volume of products supplied
• quality control measures taken in manufacture
• origin of product manufacture
• type of product and product market
• your claims history
Golden Eagle Insurance offers product liability policies. You can get to them through your regular broker for your home as a referred client, or through River Valley Insurance Associates, Inc. 3481 North Freeway Blvd. #150, Sacramento, CA 95834 916.568.1121. They insure my gourmet cookie company in Napa. I pay about a thousand dollars a year. I'm a manufacturer... no retail bakery shop. I would expect it to be higher for a retail bakery.
I sell homemade gourmet cookies. I rent a commercial kitchen and the business side is conducted out of my home. I want to sell my product to retailers. I am looking to insure my product. Will my insurance be lower?
